Makalu Expedition

Mt. Makalu is the fifth tallest and unique mountain in the world and is popular for its impressive and perfect pyramid shape along with its four sharp ridges. It lies to the 20 km east of the Everest in the Khumbu region. The peak is known as the hardest peak as it has challenging steep pitches and knife and even the final ascent of the summit pyramid involves technical rock climbing. There is a proof that only the fifth of sixteen attempts were successful while climbing its summit. It is surrounded by the Makalu Barun National Park  which is situated on the boundary between Nepal and China .Chomolonzo is the subsidiary peak of the Mt. Makalu which rises from the north of the summit and is separated by the narrow encumber.

The first attempt was done on 1954 by an American Team in the spring at the first time from the southeast ridge but it was turned back at 7100m by a constant barrage of storms. The several attempts were carried out on the mountain. However, the member of French expedition successfully climbed up mountain on 15th May, 1955. While ascending, north face and northeast ridge was used via saddle between Makalu and Kangchungtse and it has become the standard route among other five routes.
