TIMS applicable in all trekking sectors
Now onwards, the TIMS applicable in all trekking sectors of Nepal. A statement jointly released by Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) states that the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) will be implemented in all the trekking areas of Nepal. The statement was based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the association and board on March 19, 2015. It has been implemented in all trekking areas across the country from September 18, 2015. The MoU has also fixed the card fee in Nepali currency. As a valid TIMS card is a must for safety and security of trekkers and support staff, and also to claim rescue and insurance facilities, it is requested to all trekking groups to carry TIMS cards with them.

The TIMS aims to record the trekking information of all the trekkers hiking in Nepal. When their necessity to know their whereabouts, it helps to find their exact location. It intends to ensure the safety and security of trekkers while traveling in the remote. It records the detail of their day to day itinerary, Passport details, and nearest contact. Particularly two types of TIMS cards are available; Free Individual Trekkers cards and Group Cards for package tourists. SAARC tourists have to pay less whereas the other nationals are charged more.
