Although Langtang is relatively less developed trekking area, it offers a great opportunity for the explorers and trekkers to see Bill Tillman’s wake. Bill Tillman is a person who rediscovered the Himalayan passes, pristine valley and varied ethnic culture in 1949. Furthermore, Langtang Gosaikunda Trek provides you an opportunity to get amazing views of Himalayan peaks and off the beaten path. In addition to this, this trek further takes you to the remote and relatively unpopulated areas. Hence, the trek provides you a unique type of experience.
There is a Tamang community in the midway and the trek route has beautiful rhododendron flower and fabulous landscape. We can reach at Gosaikunda Lake after the several days audacious as well as pleasing trekking through the traditional ethnic settlements and forest on the way. Since Gosaikunda is the popular Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage destinations, thousands of pilgrims visit the site every year on the day of Janai Purnima. Also, people came here to worship and take bath during the full moon festivals in each August.
Formation of Gosaikunda Lake
There is a myth of the formation of Gosaikunda Lake. The lake has a black rock in the middle and it is called the head of the Shiva. According to the myth, Shiva created this high altitude lake when he pierced a glacier with his trident in order to obtain water to fulfill his thirst. Because he has consumed the poison gathered from the churning of the ocean. It is also said that it is due to consuming poison, Shiva’s throat turns into blue. Similarly, there is a white rock under the water which is said to be the vestige of an ancient Shiva Shrine. Furthermore, it is also said that the water from this lake goes underground through a subterranean channel but it surfaces in Kumbeshwar pool in Patan.
